Eye Exercises to Keep Eyes Safe and Healthy
Here are some quick and simple eye exercises that you can do while working on your devices, commuting, or even watching a movie.
1. Get back to 20s- We’re all fans of T-20 but the 20-20-20 eye exercise is much more fun and helps you relax your eyes effectively.
When you are working on your screens, take a break every 20 minutes and look at something that is approximately 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
2. Blink-it- You may not realize this but you tend to blink very little while watching television or working on your laptops, phones, or tablets. This leads to dryness in the eyes and gives you a headache. The trick is to become a little aware, look away from the screen, and blink more often.
3. Golden palms- Next time you feel the pressure on your eyes, try this. Cup your palms and place them over your eyes until all the afterimages disappear and there is a blankness in front of you. Do this for around 30 seconds and go back to work. However, ensure that you don’t put any pressure on your eyes as you place your palms.
4. Let your imagination soar- Imagine the number eight in front of you at least 10 feet away. Now draw its outline multiple times. Repeat drawing it in the opposite direction and give your eyes the much-needed break.
5. Rock and Roll- Roll your eyes, look right, then left without moving your head. Do this many times. After that look up and down several times again without moving your head.
6. If you wear glasses this exercise may help you a lot. Remove your glasses and place both thumbs in front of you. Hold one near to your face and the other one a little far away. Now for two seconds, focus on the near thumb, then on the far one, followed by gazing at something across the room, and last by looking at something far away across the street. Repeat this many times.
Vision Therapy
Vision therapy is a kind of program that is formulated to enhance a person’s vision quality with the help of certain eye exercises along with tests, lenses, balance boards, and prisms. It can be termed as physical therapy for the eyes and aims to make a person feel comfortable and modify how the brain interprets what it sees. Vision therapy is extremely helpful for children with a lazy eye, or loss of vision in one of the eyes. Doctors use patches and recommend various eye exercises to motivate the child’s brain to see through the weaker eye and restore its vision.
What to Keep in Mind
The exercises mentioned above are simple eye exercises to keep your eyes healthy. If you face any discomfort while doing them or if you have any pre-existing eye problems then it is always advisable to consult your doctor who will be able to modify your exercises based on the condition of your eyes, age and other medical issues.
